Statement from Mayor Scott W. Anderson

During the Regular Council Meeting held on April 9, 2025, an inappropriate and insensitive comment was made by one of our Council members during the discussion of the 2025 Municipal Operating Budget Staff Report.
While I addressed the comment at the time, my Office has received multiple messages from members of the public expressing concern regarding the incident. I want to take a moment to acknowledge the concerns that have been raised within our community. Let me be clear: I wholeheartedly object to the use of offensive language that is harmful, triggering, or dismissive of others' experiences.
As your Mayor, I remain committed to fostering a community built on mutual respect, inclusivity, and compassion. We all have a role to play in ensuring our words and actions contribute to a safe and supportive environment for everyone.
It is vital that we come together—not only to support one another, but to build a stronger, more compassionate community. I encourage everyone to take an active role in learning from the past, and to continue growing through meaningful involvement in organizations such as Victim Services of Simcoe County.
By standing together, listening to one another, and showing respect in both words and actions, we can create an environment where everyone feels safe, valued, and included. Let us work collectively to foster a community rooted in dignity, care, and mutual support.
For those who have experienced sexual violence and are seeking support, I encourage you to visit our Community and Health Services webpage, contact the Regional Sexual and Domestic Assault Treatment Centre at Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital, or dial 211 to access a range of local resources and support services.
Sincerely,
Mayor Scott W. Anderson
