On behalf of the Township of Adjala-Tosorontio, the Ontario Clean Water Agency (OCWA) will be conducting water distribution system maintenance. Municipal water users are adviced that the flushing or swabbing of drinking watermains will take place in Loretto on October 21st and October 23, and in Lisle on October 23 between the hours of 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Watermain swabbing is a maintenance technique that uses high-pressure water to propel a foam swab through pipelines, effectively removing sediment, iron deposits, and mineral buildup. This process is essential for preserving water clarity, quality, and pressure, while also extending the lifespan of the pipes.
Please be aware that during watermain flushing and swabbing, residents may experience low to no water pressure and severe discoloration (brown / red) water, or perhaps even no water for short periods of time.
To alleviate the discolored water, please isolate hot water tanks and bypass water softeners during the work periods, and once work is complete, open the taps in your home until the water runs clear. Before doing laundry, it is recommended that the taps are opened and water is flushed to clear beforehand.
Some customers may encounter plugged water meters if they use water during a swab run process. OCWA is prepared to clean services and meters if this occurs upon notice to OCWA.
Please be aware that low pressure alarms on fire systems may be affected and may call out to the fire department.
