The Township of Adjala-Tosorontio has received notification from the Province of Ontario, through the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing (MMAH) and the Provincial Land and Development Facilitator’s Office (PLDF), regarding the Province’s ongoing review of settlement area boundary expansions for proposed projects to address growth and housing needs in South Simcoe County.

As part of this provincially initiated process, the Province reviewed submissions received through the Environmental Registry of Ontario (ERO) related to potential growth areas across South Simcoe, including New Tecumseth, Innisfil, Essa, Bradford West Gwillimbury, and Adjala‑Tosorontio.

Provincial Priority Projects

Based on provincial evaluation criteria, the Province has identified ten projects across South Simcoe as potential provincial priority projects for further consideration by the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing. One of these identified projects is located in the community of Everett (West Everett).  The Province has also identified 22 projects that were identified as possible future phase priorities.  One of these is located north of the community of Colgan.

It is important to note that:

  • This review and identification process is led by the Province based on submissions received by developers.
  • Any decision to expand a settlement area boundary is at the discretion of the Minister, under provincial authority.
  • Planning processes can take 10-15 years from application submission to subdivision completion.

Township Planning Status

At this time:

  • No formal planning application or pre‑consultation has been submitted to the Township of Adjala‑Tosorontio for West Everett.
  • No applications or pre‑consultation requests have been submitted to the Township for Colgan.

Should a formal application be submitted in the future, the Township is required by the Province to process it in accordance with the Planning Act. This would include:

  • Detailed technical review by Township staff and agencies
  • Compliance with provincial, county, and municipal planning policy
  • Statutory public meetings and opportunities for public input

Environmental Registry of Ontario (ERO) – Public Input Open

As part of the provincial process, the identified priority projects are being posted on the Environmental Registry of Ontario (ERO) for public and stakeholder review and comment.

This is a critical opportunity for residents, landowners, and interested parties to:

  • Review the information being considered by the Province
  • Share comments, concerns, or feedback directly with the Province
  • Ensure local perspectives are part of the provincial decision‑making process

Submit your comments on the ERO on their website at https://ero.ontario.ca/notice/026-0383.

All comments submitted through the ERO are considered by the Province and may inform the Minister’s decision regarding whether lands are included within a settlement area.

Comments submitted to the Township, or posted on social media, are not considered formal submissions.

Next Steps

The Township is actively reviewing the information received from the Province and will provide updates if and when provided by the Province.

Residents are encouraged to stay informed and participate through the ERO process, as well as submitting comments to the ERO. Once again, the link to submit comments is https://ero.ontario.ca/notice/026-0383.
