Application for Minor Variance
Planning Act, R.S.O. 1990, c. P.13, as amended – Sections 45(5) & 45(6)

Take Notice that an application has been received from Matthew Slack for a minor variance from Zoning By-law No. 03-57, pursuant to Section 45 of the Planning Act, R.S.O. 1990, c. P.13, as amended.

Location:  5571 Concession Road 2, Adjala-Tosorontio.

Proposal: The subject lands are zoned Rural (R) Zone under Zoning By-law No. 03‑57, as amended. A single detached dwelling and accessory structures are permitted uses within this zone. The applicant is proposing to utilize an existing shipping container measuring approximately 20 ft × 8 ft (160 sq. ft.) as a residential storage shed on the subject property. The structure is currently located within the front yard.

A Minor Variance is required to permit the placement of an accessory structure within the front yard, whereas Section 3.4(e)(ii) of Zoning By-law No. 03‑57 prohibits accessory buildings or structures from being located within the front yard or exterior side yard. A second Minor Variance is requested to address the front yard setback requirement for accessory structures in the Rural (R) Zone. Under Zoning By-law No. 03‑57, a minimum front yard setback of 20 metres is required. The existing shipping container is located approximately 12 metres from the front lot line and therefore does not comply with the required setback.

Take Notice that the Committee of Adjustment will hold a Hybrid Public Hearing on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. If you would like to participate virtually, make comments through letters, faxes, emails, voice messages or video clips or be notified of the Committee’s Decision regarding this application, please contact the Planning Department.

This meeting will be live streamed by the municipality through our iCompass Portal.

A copy of this Notice has been circulated to all assessed property owners within 60 metres of the subject property as per the requirements of the Planning Act. The attached Location Map identifies the general location of the subject lands, and the Site Plan illustrates the proposed Minor Variance.

You are entitled to attend the Public Hearing and express your views regarding this application. You may attend in person, or you may be represented by an agent or legal counsel. Additional information regarding the application is available for review at the Municipal Centre (7855 Sideroad 30, Alliston, ON L9R 1V1) during regular business hours.
