Freedom of Information

The Township of Adjala-Tosorontio provides public access to many documents but certain records are only released through the Freedom of Information (FOI) process outlined by the province’s Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act. 


To access municipal law enforcement records, you must submit a Freedom of Information Request (FOI). This includes documents related to property standards, animal control and By-law Enforcement. Confidential information, such as names and addresses, will be removed from the records. Active law enforcement files won’t be released through a FOI request.

If you are the property owner, you can request to see all building permits, plans and drawings by contacting ย at 705-434-5055, ext 222.ย If you are not the registered property owner, you must submit a Freedom of Information Request to access these records.

Through theย Assessment Actย of Ontario, assessment roll information is open to the public. Assessments Rolls are available for viewing at the Township Office.

Property surveys may be available fromย Land Survey Recordsย or by contacting the local surveyor or lawyer who completed your land purchase registration.

You can request various Town Development and Committee of Adjustment application records by contacting the at 705-434-5055, ext. 223.

Fees and Charges

We may charge fees in accordance with Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act to cover the cost of processing your request and photocopying. This fee will vary depending on the documents requested. If the cost is more than $25.00, the Township will provide a fee estimate before processing the request. If the fee is more than $100, the Township will require a 50% deposit before processing the request. All fees must be received before records are released.

If you are not satisfied with the Township’s decision about your access request, you can file an appeal with the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Ontario.
