Voter Information
The Adjala-Tosorontio Council is comprised of a Mayor, Deputy Mayor and five (5) Ward Councillors. The offices of the Mayor and Deputy Mayor are elected “at-large”, meaning every elector in the Township may cast a ballot for these offices. Additionally, every elector may cast a ballot for their ward Councillor, and School Board Trustee. Use the Register to Vote Tool, to find out what ward you live in.
The Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing has prepared a Voters’ Guide for the 2026 Ontario Municipal and School Board Elections, which provides information to voters such as eligibility to vote, how to vote, and supporting a candidate’s campaign.
Eligibility
You are eligible to vote in the election for municipal council if you meet all of the following requirements:
- you are a Canadian citizen
- you are aged 18 or older
- you qualify to vote in the municipality
There are three ways that you can qualify to vote in a municipality:
- As a resident elector if you live in the municipality. You may own, rent, live in shared accommodation where you do not pay rent or live in the municipality but do not have a fixed address. Being a resident elector is the most common type of eligibility.
- As a non-resident elector if you own or rent property in a municipality, but it’s not the one where you live. You can be a resident elector in only one municipality. However, you can be a non-resident elector in any other municipality (or municipalities) where you own or rent property.
- As the spouse of a non-resident elector if your spouse owns or rents property in the municipality or municipalities other than the one where you live.
If you are not certain whether you qualify as a non-resident elector you should check with the Clerk. Under the Municipal Elections Act, 1996, Municipal Clerks are responsible for conducting elections, and must be satisfied that a person is eligible to vote before adding their name to the voters’ list. The Clerk may seek legal advice if they are not certain of a person’s eligibility to vote.
Voting Method
Council enacted a By-law to authorize the use of alternative voting methods, being Internet and Telephone Voting for the 2026 Municipal Election.
Internet/Telephone voting is an accessible and secure alternative voting method that can improve voter access by enabling eligible electors to remotely cast their vote from a variety of devices during the Voting Period.
Electors on the Voters List, at the time of mailing, will receive a Voter Information Letter containing the electors unique PIN, voting instructions, and the internet address/telephone number to cast their vote.
