Township of Adjala-Tosorontio Launches Official Start of Construction on the new Everett Wastewater Treatment Plant with Sod-Turning Ceremony

Adjala-Tosorontio, ON – The Township of Adjala-Tosorontio is pleased to announce the official start of construction on the new Everett Wastewater Treatment Plant with a sod-turning ceremony, marking one of the most significant infrastructure projects in the Township’s history.

The ceremony will celebrate the beginning of a transformative project that will replace aging infrastructure of the New Horizon’s Wastewater Treatment Plant, support environmental sustainability and provide the capacity required to accommodate future growth in the community.

The Township is proud to welcome a representative on behalf of Brian Saunderson, Member of Provincial Parliament for Simcoe-Grey, who will be joined by Mayor Scott W. Anderson, members of Council, staff and project partners for the event.

The new wastewater treatment facility is being made possible through a $64 million investment from the Government of Ontario’s Municipal Housing Infrastructure Program’s Housing-Enabling Water Systems Fund (MHIP-HEWSF) and the Health and Safety Water Stream (HSWS). This investment underscores the province’s commitment to maintaining water and wastewater infrastructure that supports healthy communities and sustainable growth in Adjala-Tosorontio. The provincial funding, along with contributions from our project partners, will facilitate these essential infrastructure improvements at no construction cost to local taxpayers, while enabling the construction of over 2,000 new homes in the community.

“Through our government’s $4 billion Municipal Housing Infrastructure Program, we are protecting Ontario by investing in local infrastructure that drives economic growth, enables more homes and strengthens communities,” said Todd McCarthy, Ontario’s Acting Minister of Infrastructure. “For families and residents in Adjala-Tosorontio, our government’s $64 million investment will help unlock the construction of over 2,000 new homes and protect water systems for more than 650 existing homes in the community.”

“Planning for growth means investing in the infrastructure that makes it possible,” said Brian Saunderson, MPP for Simcoe-Grey. “This significant provincial investment will help replace Everett’s aging wastewater treatment system with a modern facility, while providing the servicing capacity needed to support new housing. It will ensure families today, and for generations to come, can count on safe, reliable infrastructure in their community.”

“This project represents a once-in-a-generation investment in the future of Adjala-Tosorontio,” said Mayor Scott W. Anderson. “Reliable water and wastewater infrastructure is the foundation of healthy, sustainable communities and responsible growth. We are grateful to the Government of Ontario for recognizing the significance of this project and providing the funding required to move it forward. This critical infrastructure investment will deliver a modern, environmentally responsible wastewater system for our community at no cost to local taxpayers, supporting residents today while laying the foundation for future growth.”

The Township extends its sincere appreciation to the Government of Ontario and our development partners for their support in advancing this vital infrastructure project.
