Official Plan Release April 20

The Township continues its work on the preparation of a new Official Plan that will replace the Township’s current Official Plan (2000) and modernize land use planning policy to guide the Township’s growth over a 25-year planning horizon to the year 2051. The Official Plan is being updated so that it has regard to matters of provincial interest; is consistent with the Provincial Planning Statement, 2024; and conforms with the Oak Ridges Moraine Conservation Plan, provincial Source Protection Plans, and the County of Simcoe Official Plan.

The Township has been working on making revisions to certain map Schedules to the proposed new Official Plan based on comments received prior to and at the Public Meeting for the proposed new Official Plan held on April 8, 2026. Those Schedules have now been updated and are available for viewing on the Planning and Land Use webpage of the Township’s website.

As an overview, revisions to the mapping addressed the following:

  • Schedule A-5 (Highway 89 Employment Lands, Land Use Plan) – two Township owned properties that include stormwater management ponds now designated Open Space – Conservation.  Greenlands Overlay revised to reflect areas of existing natural heritage features and Conservation Authority regulated areas.
  • Schedule B-3 (Land Use Plan, Glencairn) – lands within the floodplain and erosion/meander belt hazards of the Mad River now designated as Open Space – Conservation.
  • Schedule B-6 (Land Use Plan, Loretto) – Greenlands Overlay layer reduced in area to reflect areas of existing natural heritage features and Conservation Authority regulated areas.
  • Schedule B-7 (Land Use Plan, Rosemont) – settlement area boundary revised to mirror boundary in County of Simcoe Official Plan Schedule 5.1 Land Use Designations. Note: All other Schedules showing the Rosemont settlement area boundary also corrected.
  • Schedules C1-C3 (Natural Heritage System) – revised to add Oak Ridges Moraine Conservation Plan wetland and landform conservation areas layers to the mapping.  Greenlands Overlay layer for settlement area lands also added.
  • Schedule D (Hazard Lands) – revised based on updated Conservation Authority hazard lands mapping.
  • Schedules E-1 to E3 (Source Water Protection) – revised to reflect recently updated wellhead protection area, significant groundwater recharge areas, and highly vulnerable aquifers layers.
  • Schedule G1 and G2 (Transportation System) – revised to remove Collector Road classification from certain Township seasonal roads.

If you have any questions or comments regarding the April 2026 Schedules to the proposed new Official Plan, please submit your questions or written comments directly to Planning by 4:30 p.m. on April 29th, 2026.
